Treatment for Children & Adolescents

Adolescents can face a unique set of emotional and behavioral challenges that require structured, comprehensive care. To meet the specific needs of our adolescent patients, Mesilla Valley Hospital offers a couple treatment options: a Child and Adolescent Acute Treatment Program (for youth ages 7–17) and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for males and females ages 13-17.

The Child and Adolescent Acute Treatment Program is designed for youth ages 7–17 who need crisis stabilization and short-term treatment for emotional, behavioral, psychological and substance abuse problems. Treatment focuses on issues such as:

  • Suicidal and homicidal thoughts
  • Depression
  • Anxiety (i.e. panic attacks, phobias, obsessive behaviors)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Drug and alcohol abuse and addiction
  • Self-harming behaviors (i.e. cutting, burning, pulling out hair)
  • Psychological concerns related to trauma (i.e. nightmares, flashbacks, irritability)

The Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an outpatient behavioral health program that treats adolescents with psychiatric illnesses, behavioral issues, and chemical dependency. Mesilla Valley Hospital’s PHP allows patients to participate in groups, activities, therapy, and to interact with others in recovery, with the advantage of going home at the end of the day.
