Treatment for Adults

When you arrive at a crossroads in life, you can choose to continue on the current path, or you can choose the road that leads to a new way of living. Mesilla Valley Hospital is here to help individuals on the path to recovery, which includes improving quality of life, helping to rebuild healthy relationships and cultivating a healthier lifestyle.

Mesilla Valley Hospital offers inpatient psychiatric and co-occurring addiction treatment services for adults in a respectful, secure environment. Our dedicated staff treat individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis, or who are in need of detox and substance abuse treatment.

Mesilla Valley Hospital’s Adult Acute Psychiatric Treatment Program is designed for adults who require crisis stabilization and short-term care for emotional, behavioral, psychological and substance abuse problems. We provide a secure, structured therapeutic environment for the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues like:

  • Suicidal and homicidal thoughts
  • Depression
  • Anxiety (i.e. panic attacks, phobias, obsessive behaviors)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Psychosis (i.e. hallucinations, delusions)
  • Co-occurring drug and alcohol abuse with behavioral health issues

Our Adult Acute Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit is designed for patients who are experiencing extreme acute symptoms such as a high level of aggression or psychosis. Our Acute Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit is smaller than our other treatment areas, and has a higher number of staff available to address the specialized needs of this patient population. The physician will determine the necessary level of care for each patient, and will refer adults to our Acute Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit based on their needs and their level of acuity.

The Substance Abuse Treatment Program at Mesilla Valley Hospital is a short-term inpatient program for adults struggling with alcohol and drug addiction in addition to a co-occurring psychological issue. Through this intensive program, patients gain valuable insight into addiction and behavioral health, and can learn important coping skills. This medically-managed and medically-monitored program:

  • Addresses co-occurring mental health concerns in addition to addiction and chemical dependency
  • Focuses on the behavioral changes needed to help patients acquire tools to maintain a solid recovery
  • Works to ensure patients have a strong aftercare plan to prevent relapse

Through our Military Services, Mesilla Valley Hospital offers mental health and substance abuse treatment for active duty military personnel, veterans and military dependents. We are a TRICARE®-certified facility, dedicated to serving those who face addiction and mental health concerns. It’s our goal to help individuals in our care develop resiliency and guide them on the path to recovery.

Through our Journey to Recovery Day Treatment Program, Mesilla Valley Hospital offers two Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for adults — one that focuses on treatment for chemical dependency issues, and one that focuses on treatment for mental health issues. Both programs address co-occurring disorders (mental health issues with substance abuse problems). PHP provides intense and highly-structured care during the day that allows patients to return home every night, maintain their family life and better manage their lives.
