Mesilla Valley Hospital’s Adult Acute Psychiatric Treatment Program is designed for adults who require crisis stabilization and short-term treatment for emotional, behavioral, psychological and substance abuse problems. We provide a secure, structured therapeutic environment for the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues like:

• Suicidal and homicidal thoughts
• Depression
• Anxiety (i.e. panic attacks, phobias, obsessive behaviors)
• Bipolar disorder
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Schizophrenia
• Psychosis (i.e. hallucinations, delusions)
• Co-occurring drug and alcohol abuse with behavioral health issues

The goal of treatment is to stabilize symptoms, make medication adjustments and begin a plan for aftercare, so the patient can continue with their treatment plan even after discharge. Our trained staff focuses on each individual patient and his/her specific needs. The treatment team consists of:

• A Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
• Licensed therapists
• Psychiatric nurses
• Adjunctive staff
• Mental health technicians
• Dietician

In addition to the treatment team, we encourage family, guardians and caregivers to participate in the therapeutic process to help ensure the patient will be able to transition successfully to aftercare services upon discharge.
